Terms of Service
Last updated: April 15, 2026
These terms govern your use of Riffle (“we,” “us,” the “Service”) at riffle.rocks. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
1. Who can use Riffle
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service and at least 18 to purchase a paid membership. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your account secure, and to be responsible for any activity under your account.
2. The Service
Riffle catalogs publicly-known rockhounding locations in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada (and other regions as we add them). We provide maps, site descriptions, terrain notes, and member-submitted field reports. We do not promise that any site is currently open, productive, legal to visit, safe, or accurately described, and we do not independently verify land status, ownership, or access rights for any location. See our disclaimer for the full story.
3. Memberships and payments
The free tier shows fuzzed approximate locations for every site. A paid membership unlocks precise coordinates. Payments are processed by our payment provider (currently Lemon Squeezy); their terms and privacy policy apply to the transaction in addition to ours.
Refunds. We'll refund any paid membership within 14 days of purchase for any reason — email billing@riffle.rocks from the address on your account. After 14 days refunds are at our discretion.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, bulk-export, or resell our site data.
- Share precise coordinates obtained via a paid membership in a way that circumvents the paywall for others (including posting them publicly).
- Submit field reports you know to be false or trespass-encouraging.
- Use the Service to facilitate illegal collecting, trespass, or vandalism.
- Upload content you don't own or have permission to share.
- Attack, probe, or overload our infrastructure.
Violating these rules can get your account suspended or terminated without refund.
5. User-submitted content
When you submit a field report, site suggestion, or comment, you grant Riffle a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, edit for clarity, and distribute that content within the Service. You retain ownership of what you submit. We may remove any submission at our discretion.
6. Third-party content and links
The Service links to third-party sites — USGS, BLM, Google Maps, field guides, and more. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or policies.
7. Intellectual property
Riffle, the Riffle logo, site descriptions, map layouts, and underlying code are ours or our licensors'. You get a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Service for personal, non-commercial use. No other rights are granted.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any site information is accurate, current, or legal to act on.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Riffle will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is capped at the greater of $20 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Assumption of risk
Rockhounding involves real, non-trivial risks: heat, rough terrain, unstable slopes, wildlife, weather, abandoned mines, and changing land status. You agree that you go to any site at your own riskand are solely responsible for your own safety and for verifying that your activity is legal at the location and time you're there.
11. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account page. We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, or if we shut down the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (IP, disclaimers, limitation of liability) survive.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. If we make material changes we'll tell you by email or by a notice in the Service at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in state or federal court located in Salt Lake County, Utah, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
